Our Trauma Informed Care Policy
POLICY
It is the policy of GoForth Recovery. to promote and ensure a safe environment for all who enter our building (staff, persons served, community members, guests, and stake holders) that is reflective of the five pillars of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), and is void of actions, images, attitudes, etc. that may traumatize or re-traumatize an individual.
The five pillars of TIC are:
- Safety: Ensuring physical and emotional safety
- Trustworthiness: Maximizing trustworthiness, making tasks clear, and maintaining appropriate boundaries
- Choice: Prioritizing consumer choice and control
- Collaboration: Maximizing collaboration and sharing of power with consumers
- Empowerment: Prioritizing consumer empowerment and skill-building
PURPOSE
To ensure safety of clients, visitors, staff within the facility and to promote a healthy environment that includes Trauma-Informed Care tenants. All GoForth Recovery staff will adhere to the following to create an environment that reflects the five pillars of Trauma Informed Care (TIC):
- Participate in ACES training annually
- Treat everyone with respect and dignity
- Show empathy and care
- Use active listening techniques
- Set boundaries, in a gentle and respectful manner
- Be honest
- Do not make promises or give guarantees that cannot be kept
- Give individuals as much choice as possible
- Ask for client/staff feedback regarding existing programs as well as others that may be helpful
- Prospective candidates for employment will be asked about their knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) during the interview process
